What cookies are

Cookies are small files a site can store in your browser. Some are needed for the site to work. Others, like analytics, are optional and only run with your permission.

Necessary

To remember your cookie choice, I store a single small record in your browser (callednl-consent-v1). It holds only your preference and the date you set it. It is required for the site to respect your choice, so it is always on. It is not used to track you.

Analytics, only with your consent

If you accept analytics in the banner, Google Analytics sets cookies to measure how the site is used in aggregate. These are the _ga and _ga_<id> cookies, which typically last up to two years. They help me see which pages are useful and where visitors come from. If you reject analytics, these are never set.

Changing your mind

You can change your choice any time using the Cookie settings link in the footer. You can also clear or block cookies in your browser settings, though blocking the necessary record means the site cannot remember your preference.
